Lennon Miller Scout Report
Date of birth: 25 August 2006
Country: Scotland
Position: Central Midfield
Height: 182cm
Preferred foot:
Club: Motherwell
Motherwell have been a fantastic club for young talent over the years, with James McFadden, Stephen Pearson, Allan Campbell and David Turnbull being just a few standouts. David Turnbull became the clubs record sale when he joined Celtic for around 3 million Euros. But young Lennon Miller looks set to net Motherwell an even bigger sum and by the way the youngster has stood out, that could be sooner rather than later.
A modern central midfielder, Lennon posesses the traits needed in the modern game, from box to box skills to technical ability. Often found at the edge of the box when his team are on the attack, he is ready to hit a shot rather than work it around, averaging 2.1 shots per game. Although only managing 0.2 on target, he did hit the woodwork twice against the much more dominant Celtic.
His defensive work is pretty solid, putting up around 1 interceltion and 1 tackle per game as well as recovoring the ball 5.9 times per 90. His defensive workrate is very good with his willingness to track back passing the eye test. A move to the pivot CDM role would do his development no harm and in the modern systems a player that can move around the midfield is vital.
Already with 3 assists this season in just 9 games is impressive enough, but even more so when you see he completes just 23 passes at a 71% success rate. But this shouldn't put off teams as he is very good from dead ball situations, often putting afnatastic ball into the box and although his accuracy is not as high as one would like, this is mainly due to him taking risks with his passes, attempting through balls mostly.
That being said there is still work to do on his passing no doubt. Still adjusting to playing a full 90 minutes weekly, you can see the tiredness start to creep in the last 10 minutes with Miller often passing the ball with less conviction as the first half. But with Miller winning 4 duals per game on the ground I think the best move would be to stick him in the forementioned cdm pivot role although Motherwell do not play this formation, nor do they play a typical "possession based" style of football which you could argue hampers Lennon's stats.
Ideal Club:
Already a future Scotland International, a move to a bigger club seems essential for his development. Having been linked with Liverpool, Celtic and Rangers, a move to either of these clubs will certainly help his development. However it is hard to see him breaking into the first teams of these squads. With many Scottish players making the move to Italy, it is hard to argue with Miller making the move to somewhere like Verona or Genoa would be the ideal move.
