The End Of FC Bordeaux- What Players remain?
The death of a football club is a sad event for all fans of the sport, regardless of who you support. When it is a former giant it is even more upsetting. Their famous youth academy has produced several top class players over the years, including Aurelien Tchoameni, Jules Kounde, Henri Saviet, Yacine Adli as well as having former players such as Zidane, Pauleta, Wiltord, Gourcuff and Micoud. Sadly the future of Bordeaux looks to be bleak with the club set to release all their players before dropping down the divisions. Here I will take a look at who is available.
Issouf Sissokho:
A 22 year old box to box midfielder from Mali could be worth a pick up for a lot of clubs across Europe. His fitness has a little room for improvement as he only started 14 out of the 31 games he played last season. However, the potential is there and he could be a solid investment for clubs. Completing 90% of his passes showcases his passing ability. He is more likely to be used as a sporidic player at the start of his career at his new club before he starts to get his fitness up. An ideal role for him would be a classic ball winning midfielder who with a modern twist includes him heading up the park as the team counter attacks. Who should sign him? Well I would recommend a team in Belgium or in Scandanavia as the system for him to develop and move on to bigger things is already in place.
Tom Lacoux:
Another midfielder here who maybe isn't the most exciting player but is a solid option for a lot of clubs is Tom Lacoux. His play style is very similar to the modern deep lying playmaker, with his main role being behind 2 central midfielders to anchor a midfield 3. 31 Passes per game at an 89% success rate as well as 1.4 tackles per game show his cdm ability and I imagine in a more possession based system those numbers will head upwards. He also has experience playing in Portugal with a loan spell with Famalicao 2 seasons ago. Still only 22 years old with plenty of room to go, I would suggest a move to a fellow ligue 2 side or maybe even a move to Celtic in Scotland should Matt O'Riley leave.
Emmanuel Biumla:
The youngest player i will recommend. 19 year old centre back who has shown flashes of huge potential. A 6ft 1 ball playing defender who looks like a modern centre back and his stats back it up. Completing 39.6 passes per game at a 91% accuracy rate, this shows he can fit in to a possession based system. But his defending is fundamental with 2.5 clearances per game and 3.8 recoveries per game. Also commiting only 0.8 fouls per game highlight his decision making. Coming from the Bordeaux academy it is a shame he won't be able to play for his team but with his ability he can make a move and develop. What club should he move to? Perhaps a move to a Swiss club who have a reputation of developing players from French clubs would suit him well. Keep an eye on him!
Pedro Diaz:
A crafty Spanish midfielder who was the standout for the club last season will surely have the most interest. A versatile midfielder who can play cdm, cm or even cam if needed due to his fantastic passing ability. Completing 47 passes at an 87% success rate with 4 long balls per game shows he can play in both a direct and short passing system. Defensively he offers a lot for a mpre creative player, racking up 1.1 interceptions and 1.7 tackles per game. This is due to his high work rate, willing to close down his opponent. He racked up 7 goals last season and these were due to to him popping up late in the box. Signing him on a free would be a bargain considering he cost Bordeaux 2 million Euro's last summer. Still only 26 there is certainly upside for whoever gets him. Who should sign him? I would love to see him play for Celtic, a similar player to Paulo Bernardo who recently joined for 3 million, getting Diaz on a free would boost Celtic's midfield especially if O'Riley leaves.
Zan Vipotnik:
A big target man is always worth keeping an eye on. A Slovenian national who earned a move to Bordeaux due to a fantastic season in Slovenia. 10 goals in 35 games for Bordeaux in his debut season is not so bad and I think he will improve in the coming years. 2.3 shots per game with 0.9 on target is something positive to build on. As well as 3 assists that could also be built on, his play style suits teams playing both possesion based football as well as those looking to use more crosses. His arial ability needs a bit of work but his 6ft 1 height and strong frame provide the fundamentals. He is currently valued at 2 million so getting a striker for free is worth it. A move to Rangers is ideal for me, a striker who is pacy and strong who fits in to the rebuild season Rangers are set to endure as Zan is only 22 years old and can be sold on for a profit in the next few years.
